As you probably saw and we reported earlier, a bunch of Jennifer Lawrence and other celebrity nudes ended up all over the internet yesterday thanks to a suspected iCloud hack.
There were generally two reactions to this – most people eagerly scrambled to find the nudes and jack off, whilst some people were concerned about security on the iCloud and worried that their own nudes could potentially be stolen from them without their knowledge and/or permission. Admittedly that group of people was a lot smaller, but the implications are actually fairly huge, as it’s not only your nudes that could be stolen but also all kinds of financial data, passwords and whatever else you keep on your computer. Basically, your whole life.
There is one way to guarantee this not happening though, although it is a bit annoying in the short run. However, in the long run it might just save your bacon. It’s called two factor authentication and it’s a great way to protect your Google account and make sure that nobody but you can access it. Basically, if you activate it then every time you login to your account as well as asking for a password, you’ll also be asked for a four digit code that will be sent to the mobile phone number you have registered for your email.
Although that’s annoying and slightly longer, it does also mean that unless someone steals your phone/kidnaps you then they won’t be able to hack into your email account. That is, until they figure out a way to do that. Still, with all these celebrities getting their nudes plastered all over the internet it’s a timely reminder that it never hurts to be safe and two factor authentication might just save your bacon one day.
